In 2003 The First United Methodist Church of Silsbee celebrated 100 years.
Just think of it, for 100 years in Silsbee, Texas there has been a place of worship for the people called Methodist. We have survived two world wars, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, the Iraq war and many other smaller military affairs. We have seen the roaring 20‘s, the great depression, the tumultuous 60‘s, the inflationary 70‘s, the 9/11 terrorist attack, and everything in between. We have been the Methodist Episcopal Church South, The Methodist Church, The United Methodist Church, and now Silsbee Methodist Church. We ‘ve worshipped in a railroad car and a Masonic Hall. We have survived two major fires. There have been 40 dedicated Senior Pastors, 2 Associate Pastors, many baptisms and conversions for the Lord Jesus Christ. When you think of our history it sounds almost like the wanderings of the Children of Israel in the Sinai Desert. And through it all the Lord God has held us, encouraged us, sustained us and loved us.
There are very few churches in this community that can lay claim to a 100-year history and there are very few who ever will.
On the 9th of October 2022 the church chose to disaffiliate from the United Methodist Church due to scriptural differences and in 2023 aligned with the Global Methodist Church.
On the 21st of November 2022 the church voted and officially changed its name to Silsbee Methodist Church.
At Silsbee Methodist Church, just like at Ephesus, we are indeed ―…one body and one Spirit…just as we were called to one hope when we were called… One Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
